《 看門狗 》的遊戲舞台建築在一個被名為 ctOS 中央控制系統掌控一切公共建設的城市，全民資訊監控無所不在。List Daily 也詢問 Key 對於近日熱門的美國史諾登（Edward Snowden）洩密案之看法。他認為，《 看門狗 》正巧搭上這個全球關切的美國國家安全局（NSA）稜鏡計畫（PRISM）的醜聞事件。
遊戲情節與真實世界的監控行動有諸多契合。例如有遊戲主角艾登．皮爾斯會駭進公寓竊聽系統，監看市民一舉一動。此外，還有一個小伙子坐在百貨公司中與女性人 形模特兒傻傻對話。而當稜鏡計畫洩密案週三爆發後，Ubisoft 立即在週五將該遊戲畫面截圖上傳至社群網站，並加註「你永遠不知道誰在看你」，試圖將遊戲世界情節帶至我們生活四周。
